I found Anne Goldgar’s book the most convincing on actually finding out what happened during Tulipmania. She doesn’t rely on the ‘standard’ narrative, but instead she analyzed the most original sources she could find on Tulipmania. It appears to me that her book is the closest we’ve gotten to understanding exactly why and how Tulipmania occurred.
The only downside is, in its goal to be rigorous and accurate, it can get a bit dry.
That said, I think if you want the most accurate picture of what happened during Tulipmania and why it’s gained infamy, checkout her book.
